Separate Booking Emirates and IcelandAir Baggage Dilemma

Separate Booking Emirates and IcelandAir Baggage Dilemma

TL;DRWhen checking in your luggage in the airport check in counter you can ask them to send your luggage directly to Iceland and vice versa. This will save you from going through the passport control and checking in your luggage again.

I made a mistake of having my connecting flight tickets booked separately going to Iceland with only 1 hour of layover.

This got me concerned about my check in baggage transfer. I contacted Emirates and IcelandAir regarding this concern and they said that they cannot link my bookings because it's booked from a different airline so I need to go through the passport control, pick up my luggage and check it in again.

Luckily, I saw this post link and sent a pm to the poster. He said that it only took him 10 minutes to go through passport control, get his luggage and exited. This gave me confidence to just go through the passport control and re check in my baggage. (I also prepared my self to pay extra just in case I missed my flight.)

But wait, there is a better option. When checking in your luggage in the airport check in counter you can ask them to send your luggage directly to Iceland and vice versa. This will save you from going through the passport control and checking in your luggage again.

I did in both of my flights going to Iceland and going back to Dubai.

Hope this helps.
